We had the wonderful fortune of a connection with Kibitsu Shrine, the Ichinomiya (chief shrine) of Okayama Prefecture, and were given the honor of offering a dedication performance there. In the main hall, a structure built some six hundred years ago, we let the shakuhachi, sho, cello, and voice — all live, unamplified sound — resonate through the space, and it felt as though the entire shrine building was trembling along with us. Bathed in beautiful gold and purple, silver and vermilion, it truly felt as if we had stepped back into the shrine as it stood in that era. Thank you so much.
